Is your chocolate a bar apart?
A Bar Apart brings together New Zealand's finest bean-to-bar chocolate makers – people who start with the cacao bean, know where it comes from, and are proud to show the world how they make their chocolate. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
To join, you'll need to:
Make chocolate from scratch, starting with the bean
We'll ask you to show us evidence that you roast and process your own cacao beans – the whole journey, from bean to bar, in your own hands.
Be transparent about where your cacao comes from
We'll ask about the level of detail you know for each of your origins – whether that's a specific farm, a cooperative, or a region – and you'll need to share a list of your cacao suppliers. You'll also need to publish this information somewhere your customers can find it, whether that's your packaging, your website or your social media.
Show the world how you make your chocolate
Our partners share their bean-to-bar process publicly, whether that's through social media, open production days, or tours of their chocolate factory. Fortunately, most craft chocolate makers love showing off this incredible process – and we encourage you to do the same.
Champion specialty and fine flavour cacao
A Bar Apart is for makers who seek out rare, specialty or high quality beans and celebrate the extraordinary diversity of flavour that great cacao can produce. We're here for chocolate that tastes so much more than just ‘chocolatey’.
